Traer Star-Clipper

To the Editor and Citizens of Traer:

In a letter to the editor in last week's paper it was asked who the "Citizens for Traer " were. We tried three different ways of responding to this and the Traer Star Clipper thru their company in Marshalltown would not allow us to publish the names. I had personally contacted ninety-five people and they all gave me permission to use their names. Ninety-five citizens are by no means all of the citizens who support Traer. You will receive a mailing listing the ninety-five names. We by no means have any intention of trying to keep secret who we are.

The message we were trying to convey is this.

WE ARE, a group of citizens that look for opportunities to help grow the local economy.

WE ARE, people that have supported past opportunities that have helped Traer flourish.

WE SUPPORTED the downtown revitalization project during tough economic times.

WE SUPPORTED the development of housing lots in Prairie West.

WE SUPPORTED the renovation of our beautiful public library.

WE SUPPORTED the renovation of our local theater.

WE SUPPORTED building of a local child day care center.

WE ARE people that believe in Traer and have committed our personal time, resources, and finances to SUPPORT Traer.

WE ARE proud of these past accomplishments and look forward to future opportunities.

IF WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A TOWN THAT WILL ADVANCE IN THE FUTURE, WE MUST HAVE OUR OWN GAS SYSTEM.

WE ASK YOU TO JOIN US IN SUPPORTING TRAER BY VOTING "NO" ON MARCH 3.

Respectfully Submitted,

Judy Holst

Editor's Note: The Traer Star-Clipper seeks verification on all letters to the editor prior to publication. When letters with several names or groups listed are received, the newspaper asks that each person listed verify in writing whether his or her name may be listed in the letter. In this case, the newspaper waived the written permission requirement and asked that each person listed in the letter to simply call in to the newspaper prior to publication to verify his or her name could be used on the letter in order to expedite the process. This option that was offered by the newspaper was not chosen.
