The 33rd Annual Green Scene Plant Sale will be held on Saturday, May 9 from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at The Agriculture Building on the Cattle Congress Grounds, 257 Ansborough Ave. in Waterloo, Iowa. Admission is free. Plants include: daylilies, hosta, ornamental grasses, vines, ground covers, houseplants, herbs, small shrubs, dwarf conifers, alpines, and domestic wildflowers. Old favorites and new varieties such as the perennial of the year Golden Japanese Forest Grass will be available. The hosta of the year 2009 'Earth Angel', as well as 'Fireworks', 'Hi Ho Silver', 'Lakeside Zinger', and 'Maui Buttercups' are among those that should be offered.
Gardeners will find several specialty areas at the sale. In addition to the Collector's Corner there are Butterfly Garden, Alpine & Dwarf Conifers, Fairy Garden and Xeriscaping featured areas. Please call Todd (319) 287-5548 by April 30 to schedule a collection date for your plants. Volunteers are needed during the week to pot, water, label, dig and haul plants.
