The North Tama Third Grade classes were chosen to represent Tama County in the Healthy Hike Competition with Dan Wardell and IPTV Kids' Club. For the competition, the students had to read and move as much as they could during the month of April. The classes kept track of minutes during the school day, and the students kept track of the minutes at home. Then all minutes were totaled and reported to Dan Wardell with the IPTV Kids' Club. Besides reading, reading, and more reading, the classes did many minutes of activity during school. They picked up trash both in the playground and at the city park. They also took flowers to the nursing home. Of all the 99 teams, each representing one of the 99 counties in Iowa, the North Tama Third Grade placed sixth in the state!! North Tama Third Grade read 103, 242 minutes and moved 140, 305 minutes. That is a total of 243, 547 minutes! The entire state added together moved and read 16, 508, 686 minutes. Winning 6th place earned the school a visit from Dan Wardell. Dan read a story and kept the classes very active during an exciting visit with him at the Traer Library on Wednesday, May 13. Their work also earned a jump rope for every student at North Tama Elementary.
