The North Tama School Board held their monthly meeting on July 20 at 7 pm in the High School Library.
The meeting was called to order by President Dave Stuart. John Hayek made the motion to approve the minutes of the previous June 8 meeting, Gretchen Pargeon seconded, motion carried with Panfil absent.
During the public forum Pargeon let the board know that there was a new leader hired for BASIC.
Stuart expressed his feelings on the Tri-County Softball and baseball team had a good number for members and that it is a good program for Traer. Stuart asked the board to think about ways to save and fund the teams to keep them in existence.
The progress on the school construction is behind schedule approximately 4 weeks due to the sewer problems that were not expected.
Elementary Principal, Steve Foster told the board that there were 29 students enrolled in the summer school program this year. Foster and Teresa O'Meara attended the City Council meeting to request a grant to go toward the new Character Counts program. The City Council approved their request for $5,000 and the program will begin the beginning of this school year.
Superintendent, Gary Janssen and Patty Calderwood are still looking into receiving a $25,000 Grant from Prairie Meadows to update the sound system in the gym. The board agreed to go into closed session to discuss the evaluation of Gary Janssen.
The meeting was adjourned at 9:20 pm. Next school board meeting will be held August 17.
