With the filing deadline for city council seats approaching only one set of papers has been turned into the City Clerk, Jon Panfil to date.
There are three seats for the city council on the ballot this November. Patty Guzman's seat, Lou Rausch's seat and the Mayorial position. Patty Guzman does not plan to seek re-election. Lou Rausch is planning on running again for his seat and Mayor Russell Drivosky is not planning to run again, ending his 32 year service as Mayor to Traer.
Currently, the only set of papers turned into the city clerk has been from Pete Holven, who is planning to run for Mayor. Marlene Beenken has indicated interest in running for Mayor as well.
If one of the current council members should run for the mayorial seat, and get elected, that individual would then take over that position in January. If this should occur then the council would appoint someone to fill the vacant seat on the council, unless the citizen's of Traer petitioned for a special election.
Filling papers can be downloaded online at www.sos.state.ia.us or can be picked up at the Traer city clerk's office. The deadline for filling is Tuesday, September 17.
