Jedi Lives On

October 14, 2009
Traer Star-Clipper

By Ryan Thorne

May the force be with you. Countless people recognize this phrase from the ultra popular Star Wars movie series. But now, the phrase passed around by Jedi in the movie, is true to over 21,000 real life Jedi. Those 21,000 people follow the Jedi religion, go to Jedi church, and believe in the force.

The Jedi religion has no official doctrine or scripture. There is just a general understanding among Jedi that all living things share a living force, and all people have a natural knowledge of what is right and wrong. They believe there is a powerful force that binds the entire universe together that contains all that is good and all that is bad. In other words, there is a light side and a dark side. Sound familiar?

It might not sound familiar to everybody, surprisingly. A survey of the ninth graders at North Tama revealed only about 10% have seen Star Wars, and are familiar with Jedi.
