At the monthly school board meeting that was held October 19 in the ICN room, Superintendent Gary Janssen shared the 2009-2010 Certified Enrollment that was submitted on October 15. The total count of resident student for the district is 516 compared to the 490.9 last year and the budget enrollment is 540.48 with last years count being 531.2. Total students served , 546.32-520.52 last year. The districts enrollment has been relatively stable for the last ten years and enrollment projections by the DE indicated that it will remain that way for the next 5 years. Janssen also told the board that based on information from the Department of Education and the Iowa Association of School Board staff, that we need to develop preliminary budgets for the next year based on an expected 0% allowable growth rather than the typical 2-4%. This will result in only $ 53,642 or 1.8% of new money. The loss of money not received as a result of 0 % allowable growth will hurt considerably when expenses typically increase around 4 % each year.

Approval to hire staff was motioned by John Hayek and seconded by Richard Arp. Carol Detje and Joe Weber were hired for Special Ed drivers. Jack Halupnick, Ron Kucera, Tom McDermott, Jay Owens, Dan Schmitt, John Schrier, Mike Skopec, Kendall Staker, Joe Weber and Josh Youel were all hired as substitute bus drivers. Karla Koch was also hired as a 1/3 time Assistant musical director.
