Alice and Wonderland Review

April 14, 2010
Traer Star-Clipper

By Hannah Stover

Alice in Wonderland will be coming to the Traer theater in the next few weeks. This movie has many exciting things, and lots of unexpected surprises. It is based as a sequel to the original "Alice in Wonderland" movie and book. It starts with Alice(played by Mia Wasikowska) in her own world, and she questions ever being to Wonderland in the first place. She believes it was only a dream. But when she goes to an elegant party(her engagement party) she sees the white rabbit again, and starts to wonder if maybe it wasn't a dream. She decides to follow the rabbit down another rabbit hole, and this is where the adventure really begins.

You are then taken into another of Tim Burton's crazy and odd worlds, Wonderland. They have many odd characters, like the Mad Hatter(played by Johnny Depp), the March Hare(voice by Paul Whitehouse), and the Red Queen(played by Helena Bonham Carter). They also have many heroic and serious characters, like the White Queen(played by Anne Hathaway), Bayard(voice by Timothy Spall), and the Blue Caterpillar(voice by Alan Rickman). All these characters, and many many more, help to bring the great world of Wonderland to life, and bring out this story. The world is bright, colorful, and wonderfully strange. Just watching the scenery could be a good enough movie in itself.

Mad Hatter, played by Johnny Depp, I believe is one of the best characters in this movie. As normal, Johnny Depp has done a good job going all-out in his role. He plays this character expertly, and gives him the perfect amount of strangeness and mystery. There are many times in which he quotes a famous poem(Jabberwocky by Lewis Carrol), and it is used as a type of prophecy in this movie. Also, many times he asks a question, "how is a raven like a writing desk?". To find out the answer to this riddle, you'll have to see the movie .

Overall I found this movie brilliantly done, although I'm not sure I liked the ending. The beginning of the end starts with a battle scene, and I'll leave the rest for you to see. This was a great movie, one of my new favorites. Tim Burton has made another great movie. See it yourself(here in Traer in the next few weeks!!!) to find many things not mentioned in this article, and find the answers to the many mysteries. I plan on seeing it again, just to experience the awesome world of Wonderland again.
