TRAER - LaVern "Charlie" Kahler, 56, died at his home from a brain tumor. A visitation will be held Thursday, May 6 at Overton Funeral Home, Traer from 4 to 7 p.m. and an hour prior to services on Friday at the Church. Memorial Services will be held Friday, May 7 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Presbyterian Church, Traer. Burial will be at Crystal Cemetery.
LaVern Charles Kahler, Jr."Charlie" was born January 31, 1954 to LaVern and Shirley (Maust) Kahler in Waterloo. He attended North Tama School and graduated with his class in 1972. On June 9, 1973 he married Dorothy Buresh at St. Wenceslaus Church in Clutier. Charlie and Dorothy lived on a farm south of Traer all their married life. Charlie was a self employed farmer and worked as a factory supervisor at Clearline Cutlery.
He is preceded in death by his father LaVern. Charlie is survived by his wife Dorothy of Traer: his mother Shirley Kahler of Traer; grandmother, Jessie Kahler; two daughters, Amanda (Jason) Bina of Traer, Haley Kahler and Curt Kupka of Elberon; a grandson, Austin Kupka of Elberon; three sisters, Penny (Scott) Peters of Glardbrook, Jo Kahler and Madelon Harms of Traer, Rhonda (Larry) Kling of Polk City; one brother Jon Kahler and June Sivertsen of Traer.
