To the Editor,
The week of May 6-12 is National Nurses week and the week of June 10 - 17 in National Nursing Assistants week. I would like to take this opportunity to express my deep appreciation to all of these nurses and nursing assistants that work at Sunrise Hill Care & Rehab Center in Traer.
Many of these workers are from the North Tama School district and some are from our surrrounding communities. These are people who give of themselves everyday to all of our residents who are in the most vulnerable part of their lives. The nurses and nursing assistants work around the clock, in good weather and in bad, to care for these residents. They may be here to recover from surgery to return home, or are too frail to live alone and require total care for their well-being. Not only do they do the usual activities of daily living, but they also are the spokesperson for that resident to the doctors and the families. Sometimes decisions are difficult, and and conversations not expected, but each of them assists other s with grace, compassion, and heartfelt sincerity.
Each year when this time of year comes around, I like to reflect upon the dedication that these people give day in and day out. It can be very stressful, and sometimes frustrating. But I want all my staff to know how much I care about each and every one of them. I am proud of my nurses and nursing assistants and congratulate them for their hard work!
