Wendall Howard, 88 of Traer died may 31, 2010 at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer of natural causes. Services were held on Saturday, June 5 at Calvary Baptist Church in Dysart with burial held prior at the Buckingham Cemetery in Traer.

Wendell Laverne Howard was born August 8, 1921 near Shelby, son of Abram Alvin and Nova Kern Howard. As a young boy he moved with his family to the Traer area where he received his education. He then started farming. On August 2, 1942 he united in marriage to Pauline Paxton at the Methodist Parsonage in Traer, followed by a honeymoon to Denver, Colo. Wendell and Pauline made their home in the Traer area farming together for over 40 years. Wendell was also a seed corn salesman, a sale barn employee and factory worker. May 19, 1945 he was inducted into the Army and served as military police in Germany. He was honorably discharged in 1946. Upon return home he joined the Kubik-Finch American Legion Post #142 and was an active member for 64 years. Having fallen in love with his military Willy's jeep, he purchased one upon discharge and oh what fun he had with it. He was a role model of faithfulness and commitment to his wife and his Savior. Wendell was a charter member of the Calvary Baptist Church. Wendell's death came at the Sunrise Hill Care Center with family at his side on Monday, May 31, 2010 at the age of 88 years. He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Rex, Leighton and Gerald and son-in-law John McKinley. He is survived by his wife Pauline of Traer; daughters Anne (Duane) Hansen of Ark. and Karol McKinley of Hudson; several grandchildren; many great grandchildren and a sister-in-law, Mary Ann Howard.
