North Tama 19 CAL 2
The Redhawk baseball team beat Iowa Star foe CAL in five innings at Alexander on June 2. The win put the Redhawks record at 5-2 and 2-1 in conference play. North Tama pounded out 14 hits, including six that went for extra bases. Cade Isenhower led the arsenal with two singles and a double, scoring three times and knocking in a run. Jon Koob smacked a single and a double to plate three Redhawks. Jacob Wrage swiped two bases and scored three runs. Wrage hit a single and a double to drive in a run. Tyler Cizek hit a laser over the left center fence for his second home run of the season.
Brendon Boerm and Colby Harms each added a double a piece to the attack. Dalton Hulme hit a pinch hit single to record his first career varsity hit and RBI. Harms took the hill for North Tama. Harms pitched all five innings allowing one earned run, two hits, two walks and he struck out nine batters.
North Tama 11 NEH 1
The North Tama baseball club knocked off Northeast Hamilton by the ten run rule 11-1. The game was played June 4 at J. L. Lister Field. The Redhawks continue to rack up hits at a record pace. North Tama smacked 14 hits for the second consecutive game. Jacob Wrage went 3 for 3 at the plate with one RBI and three runs scored. Marshall Karr smacked two singles driving in three runs. Pete Kopriva crushed a double and a single to collect two RBI's. Jeremy Wrage had two hits including a double, scored two runs and drove in a run. Cizek smacked two hits driving in one and scoring one. Boerm held NEH to one unearned run to earn his second win of the season. Boerm allowed just three hits, a walk and fanned nine batters. The win put the Redhawks at 3-1 in conference play and 6-2 overall.
Kubik-Finch Post Results
The Redhawk nine took second place at the annual Kubik-Finch Post Tournament held at J. L. Lister Field. The North Tama Club took care of 2A Iowa Valley in first round action, 18 to 5 in five innings. the North Tama sluggers once again smashed out double figures at the plate collecting 16 hits. Boerm was two for two with two doubles driving in three runs and scoring two of his own. Isenhower hit two singles knocking in two runs and scoring one. Harms slapped three singles. Wrage extended his hitting streak to seven hits in a row going two for two at the plate, while scoring tree runs. Kopriva smacked two hits scored two runs and batted in a run. Sean Dengler drove in four runs on a squeeze bunt, walk and a single. Pitcher Koob went the distance to earn his second win on the hill. Koob allowed four earned runs on six hits, three walks and struck out nine.
In the championship game North Linn slapped North Tama's five game winning streak. North Linn beat the Redhawks for the second time this season. The score was 12 - 8. The Redhawks had a total of 13 hits including five extra base hits. Wrage hit a two run homer, his first of the season. Wrage was two for two with two runs batted in and a run scored. Karr ripped two doubles and scored a run. Kopriva went two for four at the dish driving in a run and scoring one. Cizek and Boerm each hit a single and a double. Cizek knocked in two runs and scored twice. Boerm swiped three bases and scored a run. Wrage went 0-4 ending his streak of seven consecutive base hits. Cizek was the pitcher of record dropping his pitching record to 2-1. Cizek threw three innings allowing seven earned runs. Harms pitched the last four innings and did not allow a run. Harms allowed six hits, one free pass and whiffed two.
The Redhawks baseball team's overall record is 7-3 and 3-1 in conference play. The Redhawk nine is currently in third place in the Iowa Star Conference behind second ranked Don Bosco and Dunkerton. North Tama will travel to Janesville June 7 to take on their conference rivals. The game of the week will be at J. L. Lister Field against undefeated Dunkerton Raiders on Wednesday, June 9. The Redhawks will take on former North Tama Coach, Matt Zoske and the BCLUW Comets in Beaman on Thursday, June 10 and will play in Clarksville on June 11. the Redhawks will play in the East Buchanan tourney on Saturday, June 12.
The Redhawks baseball team is currently ranked ninth in the state in Class 1A. The Redhawks lead class 1A in hits, doubles and runs. The ball club has averaged 14 runs a game through the first ten games of the season The team batting average is currently .403. The Redhawk season record for the highest team average is .388 and was set in 2001.
NT JV Baseball update
The North Tama JV baseball team has an overall record of 4-1 and is currently in first place in the Iowa Star Conference with a 4-0 record. The JV team scored five runs in last the last inning to defeat GMG 6-5. North Linn defeated the Redhawks by the score of 10-3. The JV baseball team scored six runs in the last inning to defeat the Don Bosco Dons by the score of 8-5. The young Redhawks pounded CAL and NEH by the scores of 15-3 and 12-0.
