Ann L. Brackett, 79 of Traer died Monday, July 12, 2010 at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo of heart failure. Visitation was held Sunday, July 18 from 3-5 pm at Overton Funeral Home in Traer with a Memorial Service that followed also at Overton Funeral Home. Burial will be at a later date.
Ann Lea Brackett was born September 7, 1930 in Oklahoma City, OK, the daughter of Otto and Fannie Brown Flowers. At an early age she moved with her family to Houston, MO where she attended school and graduated in 1947. On January 14, 1950 she was united in marriage to Max Brackett in Houston. They moved to Des Moines, IA later moving to make their home in Traer. After raising her family Ann was employed at Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer. She was an active member of the Traer Community where she was an EMT for the Traer Ambulance for many years and also was the first woman elected to the Traer City Council serving from 1978 to 1993. She also was a member of the United Methodist Church in Traer. Ann's death came at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo on Monday, July 12, 2010 at the age of 79 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Max in 2005 and two brothers John and Melvin Flowers. She is survived by three daughters Ann Wilson of Fernadina Beach, FL, Barb (Denny) Dolash of Tama, and Ruth (Scott) Cripe of Fairbank, seven grandsons, Kurtis, Bryan, Jeff, David, Jamie, Dustin and Cody, seven great grandchildren Kelsie, Megan, Tommy, James, Emma, Mitch and Carter and one great great grandson Mathew, two sisters, Betty Wilcox of Florissant, MO, Frances Wilson of Houston, MO Memorials will be directed to the Traer Ambulance Service and the Traer Public Library.
