Celestine Joseph "C.J." Wobeter, 96, Toledo, died Saturday, October 9, 2010, at Carrington Place of Toledo under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Mass of Christian Burial washeld on Tuesday, Oct. 12, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama with Father Michael Mescher as celebrant. Interment followed at St. Wenceslaus Cemetery in rural Clutier.
Celestine was born on February 19, 1914, in Otter Creek Township, rural Toledo, the son of James and Jennie (Kupka) Wobeter.
On Oct.1, 1935, he was married to Frances Mary Kucera at St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church in rural Clutier. He was engaged in farming until retirement. C.J. was a member of the St. Patrick Catholic Church in Tama, Knights of Columbus, K.D. Lodge and Catholic Foresters. He volunteered for many local organizations over the years, especially Meals on Wheels.
Preceding him in death were his parents; his wife, Frances on January 15, 2009; a daughter, Mary Ann; four sisters, Albia Upah, Lucille Grabenbauer, Elizabeth Dvorak, and Lottie in infancy; and three brothers, William Wobeter, James Wobeter and Edward Wobeter.
Survivors include eight children, Larry (Liz) Wobeter, Montrose, Colo., Sr. Celeste Wobeter of Notre Dame Sisters, Omaha, Neb., Tony (Gaylen) Wobeter, Iowa City, Paul (Paulette) Wobeter, Toledo, Leo (Linda) Wobeter, Vinton, Peter (Berleen) Wobeter, Toledo, Annie (Jeff) Brill, Ham Lake, Minn. and Debra (Jeff) Heil, Haverhill; eighteen grandchildren; fourteen great grandchildren.
A memorial fund has been established.
