Last Friday night was a chilly one for the Redhawk fans. But the boys kept the crowds heart pumping with a close game against the Edgewood-Colesburg Vikings. Ed-Co did not let North Tama score a touchdown until the fourth quarter.
The boys had some trouble getting through the Vikings defense the first 3 quarters. North Tama fumbled the ball and turned it over to Ed-Co early in the first quarter. However, the North Tama defense got a turnover on an interception only a few minutes after the fumble. Tyler Cizek intercepted a pass, which led to a 24-yard field goal from Tanner Swanger. North Tama turned the ball over again in the second quarter and Ed-Co did a nice job of holding the Redhawk offense from scoring until the fourth quarter.
The Redhawks finally got the offense cranked up in the fourth quarter scoring two touchdowns after forcing two more Ed-Co turnovers. Jacob Wrage intercepted an Ed-Co pass just 30 seconds into the fourth quarter setting up the Redhawks drive to score the 1st touchdown of the game. The touchdown was scored when Cade Isenhower rushed past the Viking defense into the endzone. After some problems with the PAT hold Jacob Wrage picked up the ball and threw it to Lucas Hefty who brought it down for the 2 points. The very next drive for the Vikings, the North Tama defense forced another turnover this time in the form of a fumble setting the Redhawks up for their final score of the game. Again, the touchdown came from Cade Isenhower with the extra point from Nolan Hefty. Ending the game 18 to 0.
The Redhawks held the Vikings to only four 1st downs, 12 rushing yards and 127 passing yards. The Redhawks had 21 1st downs, 212 rushing yards and193 passing yards. Lucas Hefty had 6 catches for 94 yards, and Tyler Cizek had 3 catches for 57 yards. Cade Isenhower had 29 carries for 121 yards and two touchdowns, while quarterback Brendon Boerm had 13 carries for 70 yards. On defense Cade Isenhower and Nathan Jones led the Redhawks in tackles with 10 each, and Brandon Svoboda and Brendon Boerm were right behind them with 7 each.
