On November 4th nine high school students from North Tama made their way down to St. Louis, Missouri for the 2010 National Cluster Meeting for FCCLA. At this conference they enjoyed making new friends, listening to motivational speakers, and spending time with FCCLA's National Executive Council (National Officers). One of the great guest speakers included Eddie Slowikowski who is one of the country's most dynamic professional speakers and an Empowerment Strategist. He uses a multimedia approach and wide-ranging programs to connect with students. Eddie passes along a powerful message while having a lot of fun along the way.
Another speaker, Patrick Kasper, focused on the power a positive mindset can have on an individual's life. As an Internationally known Fitness Instructor and Motivational speaker, Kasper focuses on and promotes fitness, self esteem, and team building. He has appeared on Oprah promoting his program "Positive Motion," and voted the #1 fitness instructor in Chicago by Windy City Sports Magazine. He got FCCLA members moving and presented a positive message that can be applied to all aspects of life.
The Final keynote speaker was a well-known former Major League Baseball pitcher, Byron Embry. He challenged members to find their passion and talents in life and go build on them. He then encouraged others to "Challenge, Change, and Inspire" other people. Byron Embry provided a motivational experience full of fun stories of three little pigs and finding everyone's "brick" (or talents) in life.
Nicole Schlichting (fifth year in FCCLA) enjoyed her trip to St. Louis, "I really liked one of the mini-sessions I went to about distractions while driving. It surprised me to see how badly texting and driving can affect my judgment. I even wear a bracelet I received that says TTYL I'm Driving."
The North Tama FCCLA Chapter had a great time in St. Louis for their National Cluster Meeting and also became good friends with the Nashua-Plainfield FCCLA chapter (pictured above) and many more FCCLA members and adviser from all around the Midwest. The North Tama FCCLA Chapter had a great time in St. Louis and is looking forward to their State Conference in Des Moines this coming March.
