Gerald L. Degner, 83 of Gladbrook, formerly of Dysart died Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at him home in Gladbrook from a sudden illness. Services were held on Tuesday, December 28, 2010 at the Dysart United Methodist Church with burial at Dysart Cemetery.

Gerald LeRoy Degner was born December 16, 1927 on a farm near Dysart, son of Walter and Bertha Nelson Degner. He received his education in country school and later Dysart Schools where he graduated with the Class of 1945. On October 5, 1950 he was united in marriage to Helen Oettchen at the EUB Church in Dysart. Gerald and Helen made their home farming all their married life on a farm west of Dysart. After Helen's death on April 17, 1998 Gerald moved to town and in January of 2004 he moved to Gladbrook. Gerald's death came at his home suddenly on Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the age of 83 years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Polled Hereford Association and was a 4-H Leader. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Helen, three brothers Dean, Homer and Hubert and one sister Carol Degner. He is survived one son Daniel (Patricia Woodson) of Dysart, one daughter Brenda (Douglas) Mundt of Gladbrook, 14 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, one brother Bill (Helen) Degner of Green Mountain and one sister Marjorie Foster of Dysart.
