JANESVILLE - Ralph E. McDaniel, 89, of Janesville, died Monday, January 17, at the Cedar Valley Hospice Home of natural causes.
He was born May 28, 1921, in Waterloo, son of Ora and Goldie Figge McDaniel. He married Anna Maria Gherardi March 3, 1946 in Livorno, Italy.
He was employed, as a dispatcher, with John Deere for 32 years, retiring in 1979. Ralph was a WWII veteran, serving in the US Army as a sergeant in Africa and Europe.
Survivors include: his wife; a son, Robert (Holly) McDaniel of Evansdale; two daughters, Sandy (David) Slack of Traer and LuAnn (Mark) Andera of Cedar Falls; a daughter-in-law, Beth Anne McDaniel of Parkersburg; a brother, Richard (Grace) McDaniel of Traer; 12 grandchildren, Shelly (Roger) Reimer, Becky (Troy) Duryee, Katie (David) McCullough, Timothy (Trisha Mast) Andera, Kori (Robert) Coombs, Lindy McDaniel, Justin (Brooke Dwyer) McDaniel, Ryan (Melissa Lovegren) McDaniel, Alex, Connor and Lita McDaniel and Dane Hagemeier; ten great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by: a son, Ralph E. McDaniel, Jr.; an infant brother, Raymond; and three sisters, Virginia (Vern) Saylor, Helen (Larry) Dirks and Maxine (John) Peppler.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Bethany Bible Chapel, 4507 Rownd St., Cedar Falls, with burial in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Waterloo, where full military rites will be conducted by Waterloo Amvets Post 19 and Evansdale Amvets Post 31. Flag presentation by the Iowa Army Honor Guard.
Public visitation will be from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday at Hagarty Waychoff Grarup Funeral Service on West Ridgeway and also for an hour before services at the church on Thursday.

Ralph loved to hunt, fish and attend auctions in Waverly. He will be sadly missed by his family and his little dog, Pepe.
