The GRNT wrestling team traveled to Conrad to compete in the Conference Wrestling Meet that was held on Saturday, January 29. Wrestling for Junior Varsity was Christy Calderwood and Tyler Bovy. Calderwood wrestled hard against Charlie Faulker from Jesup but lost with a final score of 2-7. Bovy also came up short in his three matches against Nolan Newhall of Jesup, Jordan Scott of Union and Dylon Brown of West Marshall. Loosing by fall against Union's Scott, Bovy had very close scores with 2-6 against Newhall and 2-4 against Brown.
Wrestling Varsity for GRNT was Alex Bovy wrestling at 119 pounds. With 1:41 into his match, Bovy won by fall against Gavin Eastman of A-P but loosing close to Chris Goodwin of West Marshall with a 2-4 score and a 1-7 final score against Erik Beninga of Dike-New Hartford. North Tama's 125 pound wrestler, Omar Martinez lost his matches with one fall at 3:40 on the clock and a close match of 6-8. Clayton Blocker (130) pinned two of his opponents, Boise from Jesup and Krull from East Marshall/GMG. Blocker lost two other matches one to a fall and the final one against Vince LaRue of Wapsie Valley with a one point difference of 2-3. Bryce Moats also had a close score in his 135 pound weight bracket but came up short against EM/GMG wrestler, Perrone, 2-4. With one other loss, by fall, against John Hora of Denver-Tripoli, Moats won by pinning his opponent Brennen Simon from A-P in the time of 1:59. Tyler Lashbrook, a 145 pound wrestler for GRNT took all of his matches, King (BCLUW-SH), Happel (Wapsie) and Meling (EM-GMG) giving him first place. Andrew Winburn wrestled at 171 pounds, winning two of his matches by falls with fast times of 0:41 and 0:27. Winburn did wrestle two other matches losing, 0-13 against Everts of A-P and 9-11 against Wanatee of EM-GMG.
Tyler Zook took home fifth place at 189 pounds after wrestling Isaiah Mininkus of Denver-Tripoli, Hudson's Nick Wrage, Troy Irvin of DNH and Ryan Kauffman of Jesup.
Finishing up the meet was Eliot Randel who wrestled at 285 against Alex Goeller, winning by fall in a time of 1:27 and losing to Brandon McCracken from Aplington-Parkersburg by fall in a time of 1:56.
