TRAER - One scoring rut was not enough to keep the 11th-ranked North Tama girls' basketball team out of the next round.

The Redhawks advanced through their Class 1A Region 5 opener on Saturday night, hosting NU High to a 64-47 setback.

North Tama (19-3) beat the Panthers by four points a month earlier but got better balance and production from all areas and all players, head coach Irv Laube said. The Redhawks led 11-4 before going cold to end the first quarter, and NU High pulled in front 13-12. That was the Panthers' last lead.
