Hefty eclipses 1,000 points as North Tama dodges Meskwaki

MESKWAKI - Lucas Hefty eclipsed 1,000 points for his career and the North Tama boys' basketball team kept its hopes of an Iowa Star Conference South Division crown alive after holding off Meskwaki 69-60 on Monday night.

The visiting Redhawks (16-4, 13-2) were led by 19 points apiece from Hefty and Mitchell Boerm. Brendon Boerm added 18 points and six assists as North Tama outscored the Warriors 20-11 in the fourth quarter to break a 49-all tie.

Hefty added 11 rebounds and seven assists, Tyler Cizek had a team-best 12 rebounds, and Mitchell Boerm had nine boards in the win.

Meskwaki (8-12, 6-10) got a game-high 22 points from Stacy YoungBear in its final Iowa Star contest. Dayton Lasley added 14 points and Vincent Lasley had 10 for the Warriors.
