Mildred Jane Witt was born March 4, 1909 the daughter of Thomas and Jennie (Fleming) Dinsdale in rural Traer. There were thirteen children, seven boys and six girls, in the Dinsdale family. She attended country school then later to Dinsdale Consolidated school and graduated in 1928. She was a housekeeper for her brother, Floyd, until her marriage to Vern E. Witt on December 20, 1933. To this union four children were born. They farmed in rural Reinbeck for four years before moving to the Witt family farm east of Voorhies, in 1937. She lived on the family farm until moving to her home in Reinbeck in 1982. In 2008 she moved to Parkview Manor, Reinbeck, where she resided until her death.

Mildred was a member of the United Methodist Church in Hudson, the U.M.W. and Sunnyview Club. She dedicated her life to caring for her four children and loving her grandchildren, great- grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. "Grandma Witt" was a wonderful cook, noted for rolls, cinnamon rolls and brownies. Tending to her garden and preparing its produce for canning and freezing was important to her. She also had a great love for flowers with numerous African violets throughout her home. She will be dearly missed by her family.
