Shirley Ann Aswegan, 78, of Clutier, died Monday, March 28 at home from a sudden illness. A visitation is being held on Friday, April 1 at 11 a.m. at Overton Funeral Home. A memorial service is planned for Friday, April 1 at 1 p.m. at Overton Funeral Home, Traer. Internment will be at Maple Hill Cemetery, rural Gladbrook.
Shirley Ann Aswegan was born November 29, 1932 on a farm near Gladbrook, daughter of Peter and Clara Paustian Schlicht. She received her education in Gladbrook and graduated from high school in 1950. On January 21, 1951 she was united in marriage to Glenn Aswegan at the Evangelical Parsonage in Gladbrook. Shirley and Glenn made their home in the Beaman, Conrad and Van Horne area and for the past 15 years have made their home on a farm near Clutier. Shirley worked as a cook, bartender and enjoyed working on the farm with her husband. Her death came at home suddenly on Monday morning, March 28, 2010 at the age of 78 years. In her free time she enjoyed sewing and baking pies and bread. She was preceded in death by her parents, one son Robert, one daughter Cathy, one sister Leila, one brother Pete and a daughter in law Cheryl. She is survived by her husband Glenn, three sons, Russell (Kathy Fuller) Aswegan of Atkins, Randy (Stephanie Hatfield)Aswegan of Newhall, and Richard Aswegan of Marion, two daughters, Connie (Keith Meyer) Huber of Cedar Rapids, and Carla (Steve) Sokol of Grinnell, 13 grandchildren , 17 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandson and one sister Florence Stark of Traer. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the family.
