Before Judge Paul D. Miller:

Anthony Ervin Shaw Jr., 21, Tama, was sentenced on March 31 to a suspended 10-year prison term after pleading guilty on Jan. 31 to a charge of 3rd degree sexual abuse. A $1,000 fine was also suspended.

Shaw was directed to reside at the Gerald Hinzman Center in Cedar Rapids for up to 365 days and was placed on probation for five years to the 6th Judicial District Department of Correctional Services.

He was ordered to register as an offender on the Iowa Sex Offender Registry and a special sentence provides he is in the custody of the director of the Iowa Department of Corrections for life.

A civil$250 penalty was assessed.

Shaw was charged on June 13, 2010, for allegedly performing a sex act with a person 15 years of age by Tama Police Officer Kimberly Schwartz.

On March 31, Shaw also entered a guilty plea to a charge of assault causing bodily injury. He was sentenced to 60 days in jail with credit for 60 days served and fined $315.

The charge was filed by Tama Police Chief Dan Wilkens on July 20, 2010.

A charge of assault with intent to commit sexual abuse was dismissed. That charge was filed by the Tama County Attorney's Office.

Kassi Rae Akeens, 30, Marshalltown, pled guilty to driving while license denied or revoked. She was fined $1,000.

Akeens was charged on Oct. 13, 2010, by Tama county Deputy Sheriff Trevor Killian at 13th and Harding in Tama.

A B Jackson, 48, Tama, was sentenced to a concurrent term of 180 days in jail with all but 10 days suspended on charges of 2nd offense drunken driving and driving while license revoked. He was fined a total of $2,875, ordered to complete drinking drivers school and placed on supervised probation.Jackson was charged on Dec. 24, 2009, at U.S. Highway 63 and Ohio Street by Toledo Police Chief Jeff Harnish.

Brandy Eileen Johnson, 21, rural Tama, pled guilty to charges of 1st offense drunken driving and driving while barred.

For drunken driving she was fined $1,250, sentenced to 180 days in jail with all but seven suspended and ordered to complete a 12-hour drinking drivers program. She received a concurrent 180 day sentence with 173 days suspended on the license charge.

She was placed on probation and ordered to pay a $300 supervisory fee.

Johnson was charged with drunken driving on Aug. 15, 2010, on 305th Street by Meskwaki Nation Tribal Police Officer Lee Posusta. She was charged for driving while barred on Oct. 11, 2010, at the Powwow Grounds by Meskwaki Nation Tribal Police Officer Mark Bear.

Gary Esser, 45, Cedar Rapids, pled guilty to an amended charge of assault causing bodily injury. He was fined $315 and ordered to pay victim restitution which is to be determined.

Esser was charged on Dec. 26, 2010, with domestic abuse assault for allegedly assaulting Terry Lynn Davis by Meskwaki Nation Tribal Police Officer Roy Peya.

Tricia Ann Ponce, 42, Toledo,was found guilty of 5th degree theft-bad check, after failing to appear for trial and not following a plea arrangement. She was assessed fine and court costs totaling $148 and ordered to pay $87 restitution to Fareway, Toledo. Toledo Police filed the charge.

Barry Jay Starman, 56, Maquoketa, driving while license suspended, speeding 75 mph-55 $579. Toledo Police.
