W. Victor Montgomery, 90

W. Victor Montgomery, age 90, or rural Wykoff, Minn., died Friday morning, September 2, 2011, at his home.

Victor was born December 14, 1920, in Tama County, the son of William and Frances (Alcorn) Montgomery. He served in the US Navy during WW II from March 1944 through June 1946 in San Diego, Calif., as a fire fighter. He started farming in 1946 in Tama Co. He married Hilma Beason on August 27, 1947, in Iowa City. The couple made their home in Tama Co., moving to Wykoff in 1965 where he continued to farm for the rest of his life.

Victor was a member of the Wykoff United Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing, trapping, playing cards, traveling (especially to Las Vegas), and visiting with friends and family

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Hilma; four sons, Thomas (Linda) of Rosemount, Daniel (Denise) of Wykoff, Brian (Lynee') of Rochester and Randall of Wykoff; four daughters, Janice (Douglas) Brick of Spring Valley, Linda (Kim) Gutenkunst of Ballwin, Missouri, Vickie (Kevin) Howard of Stewartville and Jennifer (Lawrence) Benjamin of Palm Beach Gardens, Florida; 19 grandchildren, Mya (Dave) Peters, Sean (Katrina) Montgomery, Mindy (Phil) Mejia, Tara (Andy) Griffin, Ross (Trisha) Montgomery, Ryan (Katie) Montgomery, Megan Montgomery, Christopher Frank, Alyssa Frank, Brianna Montgomery, Kelsey Montgomery, Corben Montgomery, Shane Gutenkunst, Brandon Howard, Brittany Howard, Tyler (Carmen) Anderson, Haley Anderson, Shea Benjamin and Mason Montgomery; eight great-grandchildren; one sister, Violet Speirs; and one sister-in-law, Minnie Montgomery.

Victor was preceded in death by one son, William; one brother, Kenneth Montgomery; and son-in-law, Allen "Mike" Frank.

The funeral was at 11:00 a.m., Monday, September 5, 2011, at Faith United Methodist Church in Spring Valley with Rev. Amanda Larsen of the Wykoff United Methodist Church officiating. Burial with military graveside rites will be in the Wykoff Cemetery.
