Mardean Ann Hix, 82, of Dysart, passed away Monday October 3, 2011 at Sunnycrest Nursing Center in Dysart. A visitation was held on Thursday, Oct. 6 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Overton Funeral Home, Dysart. A memorial service was held on Friday, Oct. 7, 10:30 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Dysart. Burial was Dysart Cemetery, Dysart.
Mardean Ann (Selk) Hix was born July 1, 1929, to Henry and Mary (Pohlmann) Selk on the family farm near Keystone, in Benton County. She was baptized August 4, 1929, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Keystone and confirmed in the same church on December 22, 1943. She attended country school at Homer # 5 and graduated from Dysart High School in 1947. Mardean worked for the Dysart Telephone Company, the PMA office in Vinton, Cold's Variety Store, Sunnycrest and later years at the hardware store. She was married to Lindsay Hix on February 15, 1953, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Knoxville, Tenn. They lived in Dysart and operated Hix Hardware until Lindsay's death on September 18, 1990. She loved being with her family, and also enjoyed crocheting and card clubs. She helped to organize class and family reunions. Mardean served on the board for senior citizens. Her death came on Monday, October 3, 2011, in Dysart at the age of 82 years. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Lindsay, two brothers Earl and Ralph and one sister Elvera Heckroth. Surviving are her sons Jeff (Carole) Hix of Perry, and Steve (Hope) Hix of Dysart four grandchildren Melissa of Ankeny and Matthew of Perry and Hannah and Owen of Dysart.
