ELKADER - The Class A No. 6-ranked North Tama football team will enter the postseason on a three-game winning streak after a huge night running by Nick Whannel to go with the Redhawks' usual shut-down defense.
Whannel had 11 carries for 146 yards and four touchdowns as North Tama was a 38-0 winner over Central Elkader on Friday. Whannel scored on runs of 6, 43, 23 and 20 yards.
The Redhawks (8-1, 5-1) notched their seventh shutout of the season and the 2010 state champions go into this year's playoffs allowing only 4.2 points per game - second-best in Iowa high school football.
Dalton Hulme added 51 rushing yards for North Tama and passed for 74 yards. Jacob Watson started the game's scoring with a 34-yard run in the second quarter and he also had a team-high four receptions for 40 yards.
Chris Droullard and Whannel both had eight total tackles. Jordan Mask finished with an interception, while Blade Bradley, Shane Lawton, Tyler Nelson and Brian Seda each had a fumble recovery.
North Tama hosts North Butler (5-4) in Wednesday's opening round of the state playoffs.
