From 11/1/11 to 11/11/11 the United Church of Christ will become One in Mission: to feed the hungry and confront food-related injustice. In these 11 days, the UCC churches across America will endeavor to collect 1,111,111 items of healthy foods and household items for local food banks and outreach services. The UCC has challenged each of its' 5,300 churches to collect at least 1,111 items a piece.
The High School youth of Ripley United Church of Christ in Traer is stepping up to that challenge. These students will be canvassing the town to collect items for the North Tama Food Pantry here in Traer. Members of this group are Christy Calderwood, Landon Calderwood, Austin Hora, Kayla Hora, Anna Martinson, Jessica Ubben and Josie Youel. RUCC students will be going door to door on Saturday October 29th during the Trick or Treat hours of 6-8 pm. Examples of items you can donate to the Food pantry include canned goods, boxed dry goods, toiletries (soap, shampoo, deodorant, etc.), paper towels, toilet paper, baby items and diapers.
If you are not going to be at home that night and still wish to help, please call 319-478-8190 and one of the students will be glad to collect your donation. Pastor Bob Fread would love to bless 1,111 items or more at the 9:30 am worship service on November 6th. And Jesus said, "For I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink. Truly I say to you, as you did it to the least of these my brothers, you did it to me." (Matthew 25 ESV)
