Saturday December 3, North Tama high school Student Council put on a basketball tournament for 5th and 6th grade girls basketball teams.
The teams that participated in this event were: West Marshall Blue, GMG, Dunkerton, North Tama, Grundy Center, Dike New Hartford, West Marshall Gold, and South Tama Blue. Their were a lot of close games but only West Marshall Blue and Grundy Center made it to the championship round ending in Grundy Center winning.
When asked if his team would return next year for the tournament, and if the tournament was a good idea, South Tama's Head Coach Kirk Ridout said "absolutely will we come back next year, yes I think it is a good idea it gives good competition and an opportunity for the girls to practice with no major teams.
Student Council said that the their reason for putting this tournament on is to give our girls and teams an opportunity to get better, and second to have a fundraiser for our high school girls basketball team and for Student Council.
North Tama's High School Student Council is very active in their community and school. Doing a 50/50 raffle at football games and donating part of the money to the football team, sponsoring window painting for the homecoming game around the community, also donating $150 dollars for the homecoming dance, they adopted a family of three for Christmas buying them Christmas presents, and had a dodge ball tournament so the high school clubs and groups could come together for some fun. They have many things planned for this upcoming year, one thing they plan to have a speaker come in for grades 9-12, a boy's basketball tournament in February, and an end of the year barbecue for the high school. The Student Council still has many other things planned to do this year that are being decided upon.
