LaVerne "Ernie" Knoll, 97, of Traer, passed away on Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at Sunrise Hill Care Center of natural causes. Graveside services were held Monday, April 2, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Waterloo, Iowa.

LaVerne Evelyn Knoll was born September 8, 1914 in Grundy Center, Iowa to John and Laura (Smith) Nahrgang. She received her education in the schools of Waterloo, Iowa. She was joined in marriage to Gaylin (Bud) Knoll in 1942 and they made their home in Waterloo for five years. She and Bud then moved to State Center, Iowa in 1947 where they lived and worked for several years returning to Hudson in the 60's where they bought a home and lived until moving to a retirement home in 2003.

"Ernie" as she was known to family and friends was a seamstress of professional level abilities, tailoring suits and making wedding gowns, constructing quilts which she designed herself on a grid which she and Bud devised. She also knit, embroidered, tatted and crocheted. For several years she knit newborn caps, blankets and booties for the hospital nurseries in Waterloo. If it involved thread and some sort of needle she was a master of it. And she joyfully shared her work with everyone.
