Robert Harold Rice, 39, Clutier, was being held in the Tama County Jail in Toledo on $31,000 cash bond Monday on multiple charges of 3rd degree burglary. The Tama County Sheriff's Office arrested Rice on March 24 at the Benton County Jail where he was being held on burglary and theft charges.
In Tama County, the Sheriff's Office says the arrest is believed to have solved a series of burglaries involving rural homes, some of which were damaged and which were under repair as a result of the straight-line wind storm of July 11, 2011.
Rice has been charged with seven counts of 3rd degree burglary in the cases along with charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He is accused of entering the homes and cutting out copper pipe and stealing other items.
The Sheriff's Office said the scrap price for copper has been cited by law enforcement as spiking theft of the product.
