The North Tama ladies continued a season of strong performances last week with a third place finish in the Belle Plaine High School coed meet. The Redhawk ladies compiled a total of 82 points, trailing only Des Moines Christian and host Belle Plaine when the final event wrapped up.
In the sprinting events, two girls helped add to the team point total with impressive showings. Josie Youel finished third, and just tenths of a second out of second place, in the 200 Meter Dash. Her run of 29.72 seconds earned the team six points. Youel also narrowly missed placing in the 100 Meter Dash.
In the 400 Meter, Anna Kvidera earned the team four points, and a fourth place finish, with her run of 1:07.61.
The relay events were where the girls used consistent performances as a group to compile points. They failed to win any relay outright, but were remarkably steady, placing in all but one of the relays.
In the 4X200, the girls finished third at 2:04.00, good for six points. They had similar results in the 4X400, clocking in at 4:38.44.
In the 4X800, the ladies earned another four points with their effort of 11:53.17. This was complemented by their fourth place finish in the 800 Meter Sprint Medley Relay, with a time of 2:08.40.
A third place finish in the 1600 Meter Distance Medley gave the girls another six points, after a 4:53.64 run.
Despite their success in the relays, the girls still needed strong performances on the individual side, and they got just that. Kailey Kladivo was a one-woman wrecking crew in the jumping events, taking home first place and 10 points apiece in both the Long Jump and the High Jump. Kladivo leapt 5' to put away the competition in the High Jump, and had a Long Jump mark of 15' 5.75", easily outpacing the competition.
Nicole Schlichting earned the Redhawks four points in the Shot Put with a throw of 30' 3.5", grabbing fourth place in the process. Schlichting also narrowly missed placing in the Discus.
The Redhawk ladies were back in action against both Dike-New Hartofrd and Northern University High last week. The final meet of the season for the North Tama girls will be Thursday, May 3, at Meskwaki. The girls will be participating in a coed meet and taking on Meskwaki, Dunkerton, Blairsburg and others. The Traer Star-Clipper will have results when they become available.
