The American Cancer Society currently funds 12 research grants in Iowa for a total of $6,995,000. Eleven are at the University of Iowa for $6,275M and the other in the State of Iowa for $720,000.
Since 1946 when the American Cancer Society began awarding research grants, researchers in the state of Iowa have received $29,530,932.
Did you know that one in three Americans will be diagnosed with cancer in their lifetime? Last year an estimated 115 people received a new cancer diagnosis in Tama County.
The American Cancer Society Relay For Life is a fundraising event that reaches into the communities of Tama County and brings together neighbors, friends, work associates, and families to celebrate those who have survived cancer and to remember those who have not.
The Relay for Life of Tama County will begin at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 15 at the South Tama H.S. track. All are invited to join this important and rewarding event.
