As a reminder, there is a full slate of activities planned for this Memorial Day weekend in Traer, with speakers and presentations at area cemeteries by the Traer American Legion.
One of the most notable events is a visit by Kathryn Koob, who will recount her harrowing days as a hostage in Iran during the crisis of 1979.
Koob, who was held as a hostage for 444 days during the uprising in Iran, will speak on her experiences there and the importance of Memorial Day. The program will take place on Sunday, May 27, at 11:15 a.m. at the Traer Memorial Building. There will also be a tour of area cemeteries, including the Spencer Cemetery and Buckingham Cemetery.
Also on the docket that day will be music provided by Carri Holst and Cynthia Drajna. The Presbyterian Bell Ringers, composed of area women and directed by Sharon Stoakes, will also be providing entertainment.
The organizers of the event encourage Traer and area residents to come and support our veterans and recognize those who gave their lives in defense of our freedom.
