In recent weeks, the North Tama athletic program has seen its share of comings and goings. After the recent hiring of a new head football coach, the school will also be seeking to replace Irv Laube, who stepped down as high school principal to take a position in Dike-New Hartford.
Laube's departure also left vacant the position of head girls basketball coach. Following the school's first ever trip to the state tournament, the position required someone who could build upon the recent success through continuity, and the school has decided to promote none other than assistant coach Phil Moss to the top slot.
Moss, who has been the assistant girls basketball coach at North Tama for the past few seasons, will assume control of a team that loses several key seniors, including Sydney Fehr and Kailey Kladivo. Both departed North Tama this spring after stellar academic and athletic careers.
The promotion was set to be approved at the June 19 school board metting.
