Ruby M. Rhoades, 88, of Sunrise Hill Care Center in Traer, formerly of Hudson, died at Covenant Medical Center on Thursday, June 14, 2012 of natural causes. Funeral services were held at Hudson United Methodist Church on Saturday, June 16, 2012, with interment at Hudson Cemetery, Hudson.
Ruby Mae Redfearn was born Dec. 1, 1923, in Gladbrook, one of twin daughters born to Harry E. and Irene H. Reese Redfearn. Ruby graduated from Hudson High School in 1942. She married Leo A. Rhoades on March 3, 1943; they later divorced.
Ruby worked as a waitress in Hudson for many years. She was a member of Hudson United Methodist Church, and taught Sunday School as well as volunteered to help with Senior Citizens lunches. She enjoyed making crafts. She moved to Sunrise Hill Care Center to make her home in 2008.
Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; two daughters, Janet Niedert and Judy Billerbeck; a son, James Rhoades; two grandsons, Scott Rhoades and Chance Rhoades; a sister Katherine Pitts Krejchi, and a son-in-law, Larry Niedert.
She is survived by her daughter Jennifer (Craig) Messer of Gilbert, AZ; two sons, Jerry (Sharon) Rhoades and Jeff (Erlene) Rhoades, both of Hudson; 14 grandchildren; many great grandchildren; her twin sister, Ruth Rasmussen of Traer and Zonya Collum of Bella Vista, AR; a son-in-law, Jim Billerbeck of Traer, and many nieces and nephews.
