The North Tama softball team set out this season to play respectable softball and get things on the right track for progress not just in 2012, but beyond. Despite a few bumps along the road, which included a seven game losing streak in the middle of the season, the ladies did just that and closed things out strong with a 17-0 victory over Meskwaki last Wednesday night.
Sydney Fehr led the way offensively, driving in four runs and notching an inside-the-park home run in the process. Fehr also doubled twice in the game.
Freshman Sarah Howard also had a four RBI game, and Shannon Stuart drove in three runs herself. Allie Zobel had a pair of RBI and played a good center field.
Top left, senior Sydney Fehr rounds third during her inside-the-park home run. Top right, Bree Ewoldt rounds first as her coach enthusiastically waves her on to second. Below right, Fehr hesitates before turning on a pitch and sending it into right-center for a double. Below left, Fehr fields and grounder and fires it to first base in the second inning of action.
Howard pitched all three innings of the run-rule victory and wasn't tested by the bats of the Warriors. She struck out four and allowed just one hit in the contest.
The ladies face Don Bosco Catholic in district action this Thursday. The Star-Clipper will have coverage of the team as they look to keep their 2012 season alive.
