June was a busy month at the Traer Salt and Pepper Shaker Gallery, with 158 adults and 14 children enjoying Traer's collection of shakers. Visitors were from several states and many Iowa communities, including a big bus load of folks from a Davenport bank. A nice group of ladies (antique collectors) from Cedar Falls and Waverly visited several places in Traer, including the Gallery, as did another group from Chapel Hill Church of rural Gladbrook.
Out of state visitors during June came from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Colorado, Missouri, Illinois, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Nebraska and Kansas.
Iowa visitors signing the book came from Dysart, Waverly, Toledo, Cedar Falls, Cedar Rapids, Altoona, Des Moines, Hartley, Traer, Clutier, Buckingham, Iowa City, Davenport, Stockton, Muscatine, Bettendorf, Evansdale, Marshalltown, Grundy Center, Holland, Dubuque, Hudson, Gladbrook, Garwin, Palo, Urbandale, Johnston and Marion.
Volunteers have been busy in the basement washing and photographing more of Ruth Rasmussen's collection. We are finishing up lots of little glass bottles (different companies, etc.). After finishing those, we will be working on metal shakers. Some of the silver ones are really beautiful, and we look forward to displaying those.
More shakers were donated this month also. A lady from Clutier visited and left a nice sized box full of shakers. Just last week, someone from Palo brought eight good sized totes full of shakers her late mother-in-law's collection. We just keep growing!
There are new shirts for sale at the Gallery (including some new colors), and very soon we will have shakers for sale too. You can also obtain the Traer movie, "The Call" at the Gallery (proceeds to the Traer Theatre) and an etched glass Traer souvenir mug (proceeds to the Festival).
Watch for the Gallery on Facebook! We have fun putting news and photos there.
