The 46th annual Kern reunion was held Sunday, June 24, 2012 at Amity Presbyterian Church. 47 family members gathered together for a 12:30 p.m. potluck meal.

Traveling the greatest distance to attend was the Bart and Tonya Anderson family from Indianola, Iowa, along with Tonya's father of Titonka, Iowa. Others came from Traer, Reinbeck, Toledo, Melbourne, Buckingham, Marion, Cedar Rapids, and Gladbrook, Iowa.

Everlee Anderson, fourteen month old daughter of Bret and Rachel Anderson, granddaughter of Bill and Penny Anderson, was the youngest family member present, and Emil Cufr, at age 85, was the oldest present.

The longest married couple present was Emil and Marjorie Cufr, who will celebrate their 65th anniversary on August 13, 2012. One special anniversary celebrated since the last reunion was the 15th anniversary of Heather and David Roberson on May 24, 2012. Heather is the daughter of Michael and Paula Cufr, granddaughter of Emil and Marjorie Cufr. No new marriages or births were reported this past year.

Serving in the military is Alex Cufr, stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base in Knob Noster, Missouri. John Barfels is in the Army Reserve.

Three deaths were reported. The February 11, 2011 death of Dennis Albers, son of Lois Hoffman Albers, was not reported last year. Since the 2011 reunion, Helen Kern passed away on August 29, 2011 at the age of 81. Mary Ann Howard, widow of Leighton Howard, died on March 24, 2012 at the age of 83.

Donations were accepted to cover the cost of the church rental. A Kern family history, beginning with the children of Lowell and Alice Kern and compiled by Elaine Cufr Bangs, was distributed and any corrections were noted. After the meeting, the traditional cones or bowls of ice cream with toppings were enjoyed by all.

Penny Anderson and Linda Hamer volunteered to host the 2013 reunion to be held the fourth Sunday of June at Amity Church.
