Aux. Unit #142 has new (old) president

American Legion Auxiliary Kubik-Finch Unit #142 met at the Memorial Building with Diane Owens, our new president ("again") opening the meeting at 7:15 p.m.

Before the meeting, the members were fed a meal prepared by Diane Owens, Audrey Babinat, Thelma Loutch and Verona Staker. Twenty members and one guest attended.

Karen Podhajsky said an opening prayer. The pledge to the flag, preamble to the Constitution were said by all. Kathy Manful read the vacant chair. Star-Spangled Banner was sung with Sharon Allen at the piano. Roll call was answered by seven officers. Kathy gave the treasurer's report. Minutes of the July meeting were also read.

Jean Kruse sent a bill for bracelets for the education program in the elementary classes. Vi Barge motioned the bill to be paid and Arlene Schmidt seconded it. Approved by all.

Karen Podhajsky gave a prayer and Diane Owens read the memorial.

Diane Owens read correspondance from Marvin Seda family and Bernice Manfull family.

Diane Owens gave a nice report on public relations.

Membership goal is 171, we currently have 71 paid.

Our unit prepared and served 30 Legion men at the August meeting, plus we prepared and served the movie cast breakfast and dinner. Diane Owens did a wonderful job getting it together.

Tama County joint meeting will be at Gladbrook at 6:30 p.m. on September 25th with supper first.

We will be ordering poppies for the coming year. It was suggested to get 605 large poppies and 800 small ones.

Diane Owens asked who all wants the Clipper. All officers get one and our unit will pay for whomever would like one.

President Diane handed out forms for members to write their hours of work in.

Darlene McWhirter's grandson, Thomas Crisp, is headed to Afghanistan. Please pray for him and his safe return.

Kathy Manful handed out the budget report for 2013.

Karen said a closing prayer. God Bless America was sung. Karen Podhajsky motioned for the meeting to be closed and Arlene Schmidt seconded it. Motion carried.

Next meeting: Jean Kruse and Ramona Snow will be hostesses. Third district fall conference at Marshalltown will be October 6th. Registration is at 8 a.m.
