Pauline Ruth Howard, 95, of Traer died Tuesday, Nov. 13, at Sunrise Hill Care & Rehab Center, Traer. Visitation was held at Overton Funeral Home in Traer on Friday, November 16, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m. Service was held at Calvary Baptist Church in Dysart at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, November 17, preceded by a 12 p.m. burial at Buckingham Cemetery.
She was born August 30, 1917, in Montour, IA, daughter of Harold and Anna Paxton. Anna later married Emmanuel (E.J.) Thedens. Pauline married Wendell Howard on August 2, 1942, in Traer. He went home to be with his Lord and Savior on May 31, 2010.
Mrs. Howard graduated from Toledo High School in 1935, and then attended Iowa Normal School (UNI) where she received a two year teaching certificate. She taught school for 35 years which included teaching in a rural one-room school house. She and Wendell farmed for more than 40 years. She was very active at Calvary Baptist Church, Dysart where she and Wendell were charter members.
Pauline is survived by: two daughters, S. Anne (Duane) Hansen of Harrison, AR and Karol McKinley of Hudson, IA, also six grandchildren, 2 step-grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by: son-in-law, John McKinley, Jr.
