Tama County Supervisors Larry Vest, Dan Wilkens and Kendall Jordan met Tuesday morning instead of Monday, due to the Veterans Day holiday being observed on Monday for county workers. Also present was newly elected Third District Supervisor Dan Anderson. Anderson will replace Dan Willkens the first of the year. Wilkens did not run for re-election.
County Engineer Lyle Brehm told supervisors they working in different areas trying to remove some dirt from high spots along the roads and distribute it to lower sections of road side hoping to help in drifting of snow.
Brehm also reports the foundation for the Garwin County Building is completed. This building is due to the damage of the wind storm and needed to be replaced.
Utility permits were approved for Central Iowa Water Association. They will be making two water main crossings along D Avenue in Indian Village Township.
Poweshiek Water Association will work on a waterline in Highland Township, Sections 8 and 9.
Alliant Energy will install a new pole in Grant Township, Section 33
Winstream Communications, Inc. is burying a copper cable on 340th Street and H Avenue in Tama Township.
A resolsution was passed for establishing a speed limit on Highway E49. This is in accord to Iowa Code Sections 321.255 and 321.285 which is to determine the speed limit os any secondary road where the speed limit is greater than is reasonable and proper under the conditions existing and may determine and declare a reasonable proper speed limit.
The speed limit established will be 40 miles per hour on Highway E49, commencing about 800 feet west of the corporate limits of the City of Tama and proceeding east to the corporate limits of the City of Tama. Appropriate signs will be erected.
This speed limit is due to the speeding traffic in this area. Studying traffic in this area shows more than half the traffic as speeders.
In other business a public hearing has been set for a possible urban renewal area, for Monday, December 17, 2012 at 10:00 A.M. at the County Board of Supervisors room.
Claims approved for the past week amounted to $148,972.15.
