WATERLOO, IOWA Nominations are now being collected for the annual Heroes Among Us awards. Heroes are all around us in our communities, bettering the lives of others and the environment we live in. Now is the time to nominate these individuals for a Heroes Among Us award.
Forms may be picked up at the front desk of Sartori Memorial Hospital, Covenant Medical Center or Mercy Hospital in Oelwein. Nominations can also be placed online at www.WheatonIowa.org/Heroes. For more information, or to nominate by phone, call 319-272-7676. Nominations are being accepted now through 5:00 p.m. on Friday, January 4, 2013.
Categories include: Community Service (individual or group); Good Samaritan (adult 21 and older); Good Samaritan Youth (20 and younger); Medical/Health Care (physicians, nurses, EMT, paramedics or care-giver); Military (active duty, reserve, guard, individual or group); Environmental (nature rescue or environmental efforts); Public Safety (firefighter, law enforcement, security officer); and Work Place (heroic act in a workplace).
For seven years, Heroes Among Us has shined the spotlight on the "Heroes" in our local communities that do something beyond ordinary. This could be pulling someone from a burning vehicle, starting a new public service in the community, rescuing a troubled swimmer and so much more.
The Heroes Among Us breakfast event will be Thursday, March 28, 2013 at Park Place Event Center in Cedar Falls. This fundraiser benefits Sartori Health Care Foundation, Inc., and Covenant Foundation, Inc., which provide funds to the emergency services departments at Sartori Memorial Hospital and Covenant Medical Center.
