Ruth Kavalier, 89, of Dysart, passed away on Sunday, November 18, 2012, at Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo. Visitation was held at Overton Funeral Home in Dysart on Sunday, November 25, from 4 to 7 p.m. with a service at United Methodist Church on Monday, November 26, at 10 a.m.
H. Ruth Kavalier was born March 3, 1923 in Beaman, IA, daughter of Earl and Verna Wallace Simms. At an early age she moved with her family to LeGrand, IA where she started her schooling. At the age of 16 the family moved to Dysart where she graduated from Dysart High School in the Class of 1940. On March 24, 1941 she was united in marriage to Frank "Hank" Kavalier in Marion, IA and they made their home farming south of Dysart for 36 years. In 1980 they retired to town where she continued to live after Hank's death on August 14, 2004. Ruth's death came on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at the Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo from complications of a fall that occurred at her home earlier in the week. Ruth's love was her music and her church. She was a faithful and active member of the United Methodist Church and their music family. Over the years Ruth shared her gift of music with many families who experienced the death of a loved one. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Hank and one sister Beatrice Donovan. She is survived by many nieces and nephews.
