The North Tama Redhawks can't be stopped. At least that's how it seems early in the 2012-13 season. The Redhawks are currently ranked #8 in the state in Class 1A after another victory over an area opponent in which they left little doubt as to who the better team on the floor was.
North Tama struggled to find its rhythm early, but outscored the hapless GMG Wolverines 42-23 in the second half to secure a 68-36 win.
Mitchell Boerm had a big night, notching a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds in the game. He also led the team with five steals and two blocks, and recorded four assists.
Above, Jacob Wrage rounds a Wolverine defender as he prepares to score an easy layup in Tuesday night’s game against GMG on the road.
Jacob Wrage also had 16 points to go along with a team-high six assists out of the backcourt. Brent Billerbeck also distributed the ball well, dishing out five assists and scoring four points to go along with two steals on the defensive end.
Nolah Hefty had an off night, but has been leading the Redhawks in rebounding and has emerged as a reliable scorer as well, giving North Tama an important presence in the post. Skyler Kvidera has complemented Hefty as part of a powerful 1-2 punch that has the size and strength to overpower opponents down low.
The depth of this team may perhaps be its greatest strength, and it's one that has allowed the Redhawks to record an astounding average margin of victory of 33 points.
The Redhawks will now look forward to another very winnable road contest against Janesville this Friday night at 8 p.m., before heading to Tripoli on Tuesday. The Redhawks have their final game before a two-week holiday break on Thursday, December 20 against Dunkerton.
