Council renews several appointments, considers NT easement

January 25, 2013
Ross Bercik - Managing Editor , Traer Star-Clipper

The Traer City Council met in regular session on Monday, January 7, 2013 will all members present.

After calling the session to order and approving the minutes from December's meeting, the council moved on to approve the liquor license for Weick Brothers. The motion passed unanimously.

Several appointmets for city positions were open for renewal, and Mayor Pete Holden nominated the following: Bruce Reinders for City Attorney; Jon Panfil for City Treasurer; Suzanne Earley for TMU Board; Richard Dahms and Ramona Snow for Library; Jared Bauch, Patty Calderwood and Kathy Kvidera for Planning and Zoning; Steve Foster and Jason Billerbeck for Variance Board.

The motion to approve the appointments, made by Lou Rausch and seconded by Dahn Kennedy, passed unanimously with a roll call vote.

The council moved on to discuss the Mill Street bridge project, which has now had its preliminary plans approved by the DOT. The project is scheduled for a March 2013 bidding process. Similarly, the Urban Renewal Report was approved.

Perhaps the biggest item of discussion this month was the construction North Tama plans to take on in building a greenhouse at the school. Part of the greenhouse plan calls for the structure to be built in an area with right-of-way currently belonging to the city along 7th Street. The city will need to grant the school an "Encroachment Easement," which can be approved at the February council meeting after the mayor meets with school officials.

The council reviewed the video of the sanitary sewer line under Taylor Street, which had a new lining put in to maintain the integrity of the structure. The video was courtest of Municipal Pipe and Tool.

City Clerk Jon Panfil informed the council that there should be a draft of the budget for fiscal year 2014 available for review at the February meeting.

The next regularly scheduled meeting of the Traer City Council is Monday, February 4, 2013 at 7 p.m. in Municipal Hall.
