A fire tore through a Traer home early Tuesday morning, destroying the structure and leaving the five occupants scrambling for safety.

The Traer Fire Department was called to the home of Joseph Weber at 804 Elm Street around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, and the structure was fully involved at that point.

According to reports, a male occupant noticed the fire in the living room and woke his wife, with both escaping unharmed.

A charred shell is all that remains of the home at 804 Elm Street in Traer after an early morning blaze on Tuesday. Pictured above is the scene during the day Tuesday after fire crews finished their work.

Three teenage children were also in the home at the time of the blaze and escaped through an upstairs window.

As of Tuesday afternoon, the house was completely gutted by fire and, by all indications, looks to be a total loss.

The cause of the blaze has not yet been determined.
