Traer Star-Clipper

An Eagle Scout Court of Honor will be held Sunday, February 17 to honor Landon Wm. Calderwood of Traer. The ceremony will be held at 3 p.m. at Ripley United Church of Christ in Traer. The public is welcome to attend. A reception will follow.

Landon is a member of Troop 304, Traer. He joined Cub Scouts in 2004 and earned the Cub Scout Arrow of Light, its highest award, before joining the troop in 2008. Landon has held the offices of Troop Historian, Assistant Patrol Leader and is currently the Senior Patrol Leader. He has also served as a den chief for the Cub Scout Pack.

Landon has earned 60 merit badges in his Boy Scout career. Several of the badges were earned by attending merit badge colleges and camps. For his Eagle Scout project, Landon planned and coordinated the landscaping of the "Wind up in Traer" sign north of town, with help from troop members, family and friends.

Landon was inducted into the Order of the Arrow, the National Honor Society of Boy Scouts of America in 2009, and into its Brotherhood in Mitigwa Lodge in 2010. During his scouting years, Landon attended scout camps, merit badge colleges, Klondike Derbies, and the 2010 National Scout Jamboree at Fort A.P. Hill, Virginia to celebrate the 100th Anniversary of Scouting. He has also attended several campouts in the surrounding area, as well as overnights at the Omaha Zoo and Safari Parks.

Landon is a sophomore at North Tama High School in Traer. He is involved in several school activities as well as an active member of Buckingham Boosters 4-H Club, and his church, Ripley United Church of Christ in Traer. His family includes his parents, Mike and Macey Calderwood, and brother Tanner.

The Boy Scout Troop is chartered by American Legion Kubik-Finch Post #142 of Traer. The legion has made it possible for the troop to be an active part of the community, as well as supporting them in their travels elsewhere.
