George Max Hoherz, 94, of Traer passed away Sunday, January 20, 2013 at his home due to natural causes. Per George's wishes, his body has been cremated. A celebration of life service will be held Friday, February 8, 2013 at 10:00 am at the Trinity Episcopal Church (4535 Kimball Ave, Waterloo) and a reception to follow at 12:00 pm at the Traer Memorial Building (414 2nd St, Traer).
George was born November 17, 1918 in New Salem, North Dakota. He honorably served in the US ARMY from September 25, 1942 to January 8, 1946 as a First Lieutenant, Prisoner of War/Combat Interrogation Officer. He served in Normandy, France where he earned the European, African, Middle Eastern, campaign Medal as well as two Bronze stars. After returning from military service, George was employed by a medical equipment company as a well known salesman in the Waterloo area and then hired as a broker at AG Edwards and Sons. George's passion was organic farming. He sold seed and services for about 10 years before he retired.
George married Maxine Fern Hoherz on May 10, 1963. He has three sons, George Paul Hoherz of Iowa City, IA, Peter Erlendson of Zimmerman, MN, Dr. David G. Hoherz (Debra) of Topeka, KS, Great Nephew, Tracy Hoherz (Lori) of Mandan, ND, and grandchild Nicole Hoherz
George was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Maxine Hoherz.
He is survived by his sons and great Nephew.
George had a many friends who loved him greatly and will miss his smart remarks, witty charm and kind personality.
