On the football field, on the basketball court and in the classroom, Mitchell Boerm does it all. Boerm was recently announced as a member of the 23rd Annual Academic All-State Team by the Iowa Basketball Coaches Association.
This prestigious honor was bestowed upon just 23 student athletes in the state of Iowa this year. For inclusion, a student must meet a strict set of academic criteria while balancing their schoolwork with exemplary play on the basketball court.
To be named Academic All-State, a student must have at least a 25 ACT composite score, 3.25 grade point average and rank in the top 25 percent of their senior class.
Over 150 players were nominated for the 2013 team, and Boerm was among those chosen. Head Coach Brandon Clubb nominated Mitchell for the honor.
On average, this year's group had an average ACT composite of 29.5, an average GPA of 3.99 and scored an average of 14.6 points per game on the basketball court. Ten of the 23 were on track to graduate as valedictorian or salutatorian of their class.
Boerm recently signed a letter of intent with Central College in Pella, Iowa, as a dual-sport athlete in basketball and football.
